Controller
The controller for data processing in the Text detector app is Nashwan Arslan. The full postal address is on the imprint page. Contact: nashwan.adil@gmail.com.
No accounts
The app works without an account or sign-in, and we do not keep your texts. The text you enter is processed only at the moment of the request and the result is shown; the text is not stored in any of our databases.
What we process and why
- The text you check: is sent to Google Gemini for analysis (three times with different instructions, so the estimate is steadier), and the result comes back to you. Basis: performing what you request from us (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- Daily usage counter: we count each visitor’s analyses per day to apply a daily limit. For that we derive a code from your IP address and the date using a secret key; the code changes every day and the IP address itself is not stored. The code is pseudonymous, not anonymous, since anyone holding the key and your address could compute it again. With the code we store the date, the kind of use, the count and the time of the last update. We also count all visitors’ analyses together per day, without any personal identifier, for a daily ceiling. This data is deleted automatically after about two days. Basis: our legitimate interest in running a free service safely and reliably (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- Error logs: when something fails we log only the error message and its status code, never your text.
Who receives data
- Google Gemini (directly): receives the text to analyse.
- Vercel AI Gateway, and through it Google: the text passes through it only when the direct connection to Gemini fails.
- Vercel Analytics: to measure page visits. We do not send it your text, but it automatically records the pages you visit, your browser type and your approximate country.
Texts are sent to Google for processing. How Google uses this content depends on its terms for the type of Gemini API account used. The account the app connects to directly is a paid account; under Google’s terms for paid services, Google does not use the content to improve its products and keeps it only for a limited time to detect abuse and for legal reasons. You can read Google’s terms in the Gemini API Terms.
Hosting and transfers outside the EU
The app runs on Vercel servers in the United States, and the counter’s database is hosted on AWS servers in the United States, so data is transferred outside the EU and processed there. Transfers rely on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework where the recipient is certified under it, and otherwise on the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
Cookies and storage on your device
- Cookies for appearance settings: if you pick the interface language or the light or dark theme, we keep your choice (and the colour palette, if you chose it in the Modaqiq app) for a year in functional cookies on the nashwanadil.com domain, so our other apps appear with the same settings. They are not linked to your identity, and we do not use advertising cookies.
- Local storage in the browser: only your preference: light or dark theme.
- Text draft in the session: what you type in the input box is kept in the browser’s session storage (sessionStorage) so it is not lost if the page reloads. The draft stays on your device, is not sent to us, and is erased when you close the tab or the app, or clear the box.
Your rights
You may ask for access to your data, its correction, deletion or restricted processing, and a copy of it. You may object to processing based on our legitimate interest. Write to us at the address above. You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority; the one responsible for us is the Bavarian Data Protection Authority (Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht, BayLDA) in Ansbach, Germany.
